To honor Mr. Zhang Xiangwen for his outstanding contribution to geography of both China and the world, to inherit and pass down his research spirit, and to popularize geographical knowledge, Siyang Nanyuan Area, covering a 47.8-mu area, has been constructed in Zhang Xiangwen’s homeland, Nanyuan Village of Chengxiang Town in Sihong County. It was constructed under the joint investment of some 30 million RMB by Siyang County and the Geographic Society of China. The Area was designed following the ideology of landscape planning and designing namely “Five Worlds”, which refer to the worlds of heaven, earth, gas, water and life. Within the Area there are Zhang Xiangwen’s Old Residence, Geographical Museum of China, Tourist Reception Center, Vibrant Forest (life), Wandering in Foggy Forest (gas), Land of Geology (earth), Ripple Lake(water), and Time Square(heaven). It was officially opened to public in June 2011 and was built up as a base for the youth patriotism education, science popularization and extracurricular practice. Now it has developed into a cultural scenic spot with strong Siyang local style, introducing the essence of Zhang Xiangwen’s lifelong research. Basic facilities will be completed this year to improve the tourism service business and to upgrade the place to an AAA national tourism attraction.
